Operaduellen med Hammer & Cilius

The Opera Duel with Hammer & Cilius

Tivoli Copenhagen Phil
Conductor: Christian Øland
Soloists: four Danish opera singers

Program:

The programme will be revealed during the concert.

Don’t miss this very special duel – Danish culture’s answer to a classic western shoot-out – as the ever-energetic Hammer and Cilius, quicker than their own shadows, trade subtle insults and knowing jabs in a fierce battle to find the very best of opera.

They will compete in delightful categories such as the best death scene, the most beautiful declaration of love (definitely not to each other), and the most moving duet – and, of course, attempt once and for all to crown the greatest opera aria of all time.

After several seasons of Operarejsen on Danish television, the multi-talented Frederik Cilius enters this merciless duel armed with razor-sharp wit and refined taste. But does he stand a chance against the musical mastermind of Mathias Hammer, who will no doubt have a few cunning tricks up his sleeve to win the audience over – and take victory in the Opera Duel?

It won’t be pretty, but you get to decide who leaves Tivoli Gardens this evening with bragging rights. We can safely promise a concert that is both hugely entertaining and wonderfully festive, in the company of two of Danish musical life’s greatest showmen. By now, they know each other’s strengths and weaknesses so well that they know exactly where to twist the knife – Carmen-style.

Tivoli Copenhagen Phil, together with four of Denmark’s finest opera talents, will – entirely impartially – bring the big emotions into play in the battle for the audience’s favour, with only one ultimately emerging as the winner.

The concert is presented in collaboration with Copenhagen Opera Festival.
The concert is part of both Thursday Classical and the Stellar Moments Festival.
