The Danish Youth Concert Band - The Nordic Region in the World
The Danish Youth Concert Band
Conductor: Pål Soknes
When Tivoli Concert Hall resounds with the brilliance of brass, woodwind and percussion, it is more than a concert — it is the sound of ambition, talent and shared purpose. Behind each instrument sits a young musician who has chosen to make music a vital part of their life.
Det Danske Ungdoms-Harmoniorkester (DUHO) brings together some of Denmark’s most gifted young wind and percussion players. Under the direction of its Artistic Director, Pål Soknes, this concert marks the culmination of an intensive period of collaboration, musical curiosity and the joy of creating something greater together.
Playing in a youth orchestra is about far more than notes on a page — it is about teamwork, discipline and the courage to carry music forward. The programme ranges from festive classical marches to vibrant contemporary soundscapes: Johan Halvorsen’s celebratory Entry March of the Boyars, John Mackey’s explosive Divine Mischief, Jan Lynggaard Sørensen’s warmly lyrical Three Danish Songs, Timo Forsström’s rhythmically charged Life in the Capital City, and John Williams’s heroic March from 1941. The afternoon may even conclude with a musical surprise.
The wind orchestra is a national community for young musicians, where high artistic ambitions go hand in hand with learning and camaraderie. Under Soknes’ leadership, the music gains both clarity and character, and this concert in Tivoli Gardens becomes a celebration of the energy, courage and passion that youth brings to the stage.
This afternoon offers more than a performance – it is a glimpse into the future of musical life. When the final notes fade, one thing is certain: music lives on when it is shared.
