Søborg Harmonica Orchestra - musical journey with atmosphere and history

Søborg Concert Band - musical journey with atmosphere and history

Søborg Harmoniorkester
Conductor: Peter Harbeck

Søborg Harmoniorkester – also known as Gladsaxe Concert Band – has brought together dedicated amateur musicians in Gladsaxe for nearly a century. Founded on 22 October 1931, the ensemble has long been characterised by a close-knit fellowship and a shared passion for music – qualities reflected in the enduring commitment of its members. Since 2015, Peter Harbeck has led the orchestra and will also conduct its anniversary concert this November.

This afternoon’s programme offers a musical journey rich in atmosphere and storytelling. The concert opens festively with Carl Nielsen’s lively Oriental Festival March. From there, we travel to southern France with Georges Bizet’s L’Arlésienne Suite No. 2.

With H. C. Lumbye’s Dream Pictures, the atmosphere turns light and lyrical — music that conjures Tivoli, romance, and a playful sparkle. Gordon Langford’s Fantasy on British Sea Songs then sets sail, sweeping us onto the open sea amid British sailors, hearty communal song, and buoyant good humour.

The programme also includes music by Sebastian, whose warm and melodic style demonstrates how pop and classical traditions can meet. Three numbers from the musical Cyrano — arranged by the orchestra’s principal conductor Peter Harbeck — bring poetry, intimacy and grand emotion.

The concert concludes with swing, charm and nostalgia in a medley of Frank Sinatra’s greatest hits and The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band — music that still makes us smile and tap our feet.

A programme offering celebration, feeling and fellowship — a concert with something to delight heart, mind and ear alike.
