Midsummer Concert with Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir

Midsummer’s Eve Concert with the Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir
Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir
Conductor: Carsten Seyer-Hansen
Soloist: Bjarke Mogensen, accordion
Program:
Works by Britten, Danish and Nordic midsummer songs, and more.
In Denmark, Midsummer’s Eve is celebrated on 23 June and marks the height of summer. It is a night traditionally devoted to music, song and community, when people gather outdoors to light bonfires and sing as daylight lingers long into the evening. This concert continues that living tradition in Tivoli Gardens, bringing the celebration indoors before it moves on to the lakeside.
On Midsummer’s Eve, the Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir takes the stage together with a distinguished musical guest, accordion virtuoso Bjarke Mogensen. In April and May 2026, the choir tours Sweden and Latvia with Mogensen, and they are particularly eager to present selections from this shared touring repertoire to the Tivoli audience.
From that programme come two works by the English composer Benjamin Britten: Te Deum in C and Rejoice in the Lamb. Britten holds a special place in the choir’s history, having conducted the ensemble on several occasions and choosing it over many fine English boys’ choirs when recording his Ceremony of Carols in the 1950s.
Midway through the concert, Bjarke Mogensen presents a short solo set, before the evening concludes with a bouquet of Danish and Nordic songs that capture the unmistakable atmosphere of midsummer.
