Lyngby-Taarbæk Symphony Orchestra: Irony and Elegance - a musical story about the mid-20th century.

Dmitri Shostakovich’s Festive Overture (1954) was written at remarkable speed for the Bolshoi Theatre as an opening work – sparkling music featuring bold fanfares, a galloping principal theme, a lyrical interlude, playful pizzicatos and a breathless finale.

His Cello Concerto No. 1 (1959) was dedicated to Mstislav Rostropovich and quickly became one of the most frequently performed concertos in the cello repertoire.

Richard Strauss’s Rosenkavalier Suite (1911/45) distils his opera Der Rosenkavalier into a sumptuous, Romantic suite filled with Strauss’s characteristic orchestral brilliance.
