The Maltese tenor has a truly distinctive sound: with its southern warmth, it moves effortlessly between passionate outbursts and tender confessions. His finely chiselled vibrato and charismatic stage presence recall legendary figures such as Luciano Pavarotti and Jussi Björling. Calleja is especially loved for his interpretations of the great, full-blooded tenor roles, and he arrives in Tivoli Gardens with a repertoire packed with the very best of them.

Over the years, Gedschold has worked closely with some of the world’s greatest opera stars during his time as Principal Conductor at Leipzig Opera, where he collaborated with the renowned Gewandhaus Orchestra. Watching him shape the orchestra’s sound around a voice like Joseph Calleja’s is an experience in itself.
