Joseph Calleja – The Greatest Tenor Hits

Joseph Calleja – The Greatest Tenor Hits
Tivoli Copenhagen Phil
Conductor: Christoph Gedschold
Soloist: Joseph Calleja, tenor
Program:
Arias from Tosca, La Bohème, La fanciulla del West, Carmen and Rigoletto, among others.
With his warm, golden-toned voice, Joseph Calleja tours the world singing leading roles at the Metropolitan Opera, the Bavarian State Opera and the Opéra national de Paris – but luckily, he finds time for a visit to Tivoli Gardens this summer. The Maltese tenor has a truly distinctive sound: with its southern warmth, it moves effortlessly between passionate outbursts and tender confessions. His finely chiselled vibrato and charismatic stage presence recall legendary figures such as Luciano Pavarotti and Jussi Björling. Calleja is especially loved for his interpretations of the great, full-blooded tenor roles, and he arrives in Tivoli Gardens with a repertoire packed with the very best of them.
This evening, he lets the great tenor moments shine in much-loved arias from Tosca, La Bohème, La fanciulla del West, Carmen and Rigoletto. In true “world tenor” style, he guides us through an entire evening of unforgettable melodies, accompanied by a spirited Tivoli Copenhagen Phil under the baton of the orchestra’s Principal Conductor, Christoph Gedschold.
Over the years, Gedschold has worked closely with some of the world’s greatest opera stars during his time as Principal Conductor at Leipzig Opera, where he collaborated with the renowned Gewandhaus Orchestra. Watching him shape the orchestra’s sound around a voice like Joseph Calleja’s is an experience in itself. So set aside the evening for a tenor night like in the old days – with a powerful voice that will linger in the air long after the final note has faded in Tivoli’s golden concert hall.
