DUSIKA

The Capital Region Youth Symphony Orchestra plays Carl Nielsen & Mozart
DUSIKA
Conductor: Christian Schmiedescamp
Soloists: Sigrid Ingeborg Dinitzen-Kjærulff, violin & Emilie Hjælmhof Kristensen, viola
DUSIKA – Hovedstadsregionens Ungdomssymfoniorkester (The Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Capital Region) – presents a sparkling summer concert, followed by a concert tour, celebrating life and nature. The programme includes Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, whose beautiful and expressive melodies are inspired by Bohemian folk music.
Two young talents from the orchestra, Sigrid Ingeborg Dinitzen-Kjærulff (violin) and Emilie Hjælmhof Kristensen (viola), perform the first movement of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s beautiful and expressive Sinfonia Concertante.
In addition to youthful talent and joie de vivre, the orchestra places strong emphasis on music by Danish composers, seeking to share Denmark’s cultural heritage with as wide an audience as possible. The concert therefore opens with Carl Nielsen’s Prelude to Hr. Oluf han rider and the “Cock Dance” from the opera Maskarade.
DUSIKA – Hovedstadsregionens Ungdomssymfoniorkester – was founded in 1988 and has around 65 members aged 13–25. The orchestra aims to foster interest in classical music among young people by supplementing the music schools of the Copenhagen Capital Region and offering symphonic ensemble playing at a high artistic level. Over the years, the orchestra has grown considerably and contributes to nurturing future musicians for Danish musical life.
DUSIKA performs 8–10 concerts each year and undertakes annual concert tours in Denmark and abroad. The orchestra has toured in the Netherlands, southern France, Poland, Australia, Estonia, Russia and Tuscany. Social interaction and strong camaraderie are highly valued and, together with the music, form the foundation of the orchestra.
