Albertslund Symphony Orchestra

Albertslund Symphony Orchestra
Albertslund Symphony Orchestra
Conductor: Erik Jakobsson
Soloist: Hans Steengaard, clarinet
Albertslund Symphony Orchestra is widely regarded as one of Denmark’s finest youth symphony orchestras and made its debut at a New Year’s concert in 2000. The orchestra performs under the auspices of Albertslund Music School and comprises around 50 musicians – students, adult learners and teachers alike.
Since 2005, the close artistic collaboration with conductor Erik Jakobsson has enabled the orchestra to tackle the great symphonic repertoire, including works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Ludwig van Beethoven, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Igor Stravinsky. In recent years, many of the orchestra’s own students have appeared as soloists, reflecting the strong musical pathway that runs from Albertslund Music School into the orchestra itself.
Erik Jakobsson has served as the orchestra’s conductor since 2005. Trained originally as a violinist, he performed for many years with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Danish Orchestra. After completing his conducting studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where he graduated in 2009, he has conducted numerous Danish and Swedish orchestras and has also worked as assistant conductor and répétiteur at the Royal Danish Theatre. Since 2017, he has served as organist and concert organiser at Sundby Church on Amager.
