At its finest, chamber music can feel like overhearing a conversation not quite meant for you – and this is precisely how the collaboration between the two world-class musicians Janine Jansen and Denis Kozhukhin has been described by critics.

Violinist Janine Jansen is the undisputed leading star of Dutch musical life. This season, she is Artist in Residence with the Berlin Philharmonic, appearing in major violin concertos alongside a host of the world’s foremost conductors. Fortunately, she has also made time to visit Tivoli Gardens and share what is perhaps her greatest passion of all: intimate chamber music, where she can play her way directly under the audience’s skin.

For this particular discipline, she has found the perfect musical partner in Denis Kozhukhin, winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition. With his relaxed yet supremely virtuosic playing, he occupies a league of his own – even among the world’s leading pianists. Kozhukhin has a special fondness for performing in Denmark and has received outstanding reviews for the richly imagined sound worlds he creates at the keyboard. This evening, he brings his refined musicianship into play as the duo turns to Brahms’ Violin Sonata No. 1 in G major – one of the composer’s finest chamber works. Here, Jansen is free to unfold her beautiful, warm tone to the fullest, while Kozhukhin weaves threads of audible gold around her.

The romantic sonata is reflected in Prokofiev’s raw and virtuosic music, which alternately invites the two musical partners to whisper dark secrets to one another and to engage in fierce musical arguments – played out in full view. Expect an intense and deeply present musical experience with two of the most generous virtuosos on today’s international stage.
