Tivoli Big Band og Randy Brecker

100 Years of Miles Davis with Randy Brecker & Tivoli Big Band
Tivoli Big Band and Randy Brecker honor the 100th anniversary of Miles Davis
Miles Davis would have turned 100 in 2026, and Tivoli Big Band and the trumpeter Randy Brecker mark the centenary with a concert shaped around pivotal recordings from Davis’ career. Under the direction of bandleader Peter Jensen, the big band interprets a repertoire drawing on Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain, and Davis’ collaborations with Gil Evans. During the concert, the big band unfolds in different constellations – from the intimate sound of the rhythm section to the full presence of the 19‑piece ensemble.
American trumpeter Randy Brecker has, over five decades, been a defining voice in jazz, fusion, and the big band world. His work with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, the Horace Silver Quintet and, not least, the Brecker Brothers has made him a central figure in modern jazz. Brecker has received seven Grammy Awards and more than twenty nominations, and today he stands as a musician with a wide artistic range and a deep understanding of jazz’s musical traditions.
Throughout his career, Brecker has engaged closely with Davis’ musical vocabulary. He often highlights Miles as one of his earliest and most formative inspirations – reaching back to childhood, when Davis’ tone, timing, and willingness to shift musical direction helped shape Brecker’s own approach.
It is also not the first time that Brecker’s clear articulation and improvisational fluency meet Peter Jensen’s precise big band arrangements. One of Brecker’s Grammy‑nominated releases was recorded with DR Big Band and includes arrangements by Peter Jensen, who also received a Grammy nomination for his contribution. This evening, the two reunite, and together with Tivoli Big Band they explore the musical landscapes shaped by Davis.
