Greve Harmoniorkester is one of Denmark’s oldest harmony orchestras, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023. Comprising 45 musicians, the orchestra maintains a diverse repertoire, showcased in 8-10 concerts annually.
The season traditionally begins with the New Year’s concert at Portalen, featuring four soloists. Throughout the year, the orchestra performs at various events, including the Pentecost morning concert at Bakken in Jægersborg Dyrehave, a concert at Greve Museum, and collaborations with artists such as Sigurd Barrett. The season concludes with a grand Christmas concert at Johanneskirke (St. John’s Church).
In the upcoming season, the orchestra will embark on a recording and concert project with Jeppe Lindberg, Principal Trumpet of the Royal Danish Orchestra, and Alexander Grandal Hansen-Schwartz, Principal Bassoonist of the Italian Radio Symphony Orchestra (OSN Rai). Additionally, the orchestra will welcome Devid Ceste, Alternating Principal Trombone of OSN Rai, who will perform Johan de Meij’s Euphonium Concerto and Trombone Concerto and lead a masterclass.
For the concert in Tivoli Gardens, the orchestra is joined by bassoonist Alexander Grandal Hansen-Schwartz. Born into a musical family, Alexander studied for two years at the Royal Danish Academy of Music (RDAM) before continuing his education at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg with Professor Diego Chenna, where he earned his master’s degree. Last summer, he completed further studies in contemporary music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Professor Dag Jensen, balancing this program alongside his first year as Principal Bassoonist of OSN Rai.
In Denmark, Alexander has twice held long-term contracts as Principal Bassoonist with Copenhagen Phil, the resident symphony orchestra of Tivoli Gardens, and has also spent a winter season as Principal Bassoonist at the Royal Danish Theatre. In Italy, he has performed as a guest soloist in Florence, Rome, and at La Scala in Milan. Beyond his orchestral engagements, he is a member of the Copenhagen Wind Quintet, a Danish ensemble composed of principal wind players from Copenhagen orchestras.
Conducting the concert is Grith Hansen-Schwartz, a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where she earned her degree as a flutist in 1998. She later pursued conducting studies with Frans Rasmussen, Jørgen Fuglebæk, and Geoffrey Brand.
