Kenny Washington & Tivoli Big Band

Kenny Washington & Tivoli Big Band
GRAMMY-nominated American jazz vocalist Kenny Washington honours the great crooners of jazz in a grand concert with Tivoli Big Band in the Glass Hall Theatre
Jazz and soul singer Kenny Washington captivates audiences around the globe with his soulful interpretations, seemingly limitless vocal range, and inventive scat singing. Despite a busy international schedule, he frequently finds time to perform in Denmark. He has recorded an album at Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen and occasionally performs with his Danish quartet. But this concert is something special – a large-scale performance with none other than Tivoli Big Band.
In 2021, Kenny Washington received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album – a well-deserved recognition for an artist considered among the finest living jazz crooners. Based in San Francisco, Washington has collaborated with legends such as Gregory Porter, Elvis Costello, and Roberta Gambarini, and toured with names like Wynton Marsalis, Eric Reed, and Joe Locke.
Born in New Orleans, Kenny Washington began singing gospel in church as a child and played saxophone in school bands. It was during his school years that he met two talented teenage brothers – Branford and Wynton Marsalis – whose inspiration led him to pursue music studies at Xavier University in Cincinnati. He later joined the United States Navy Band, serving in Japan. Today, Kenny Washington has performed across much of the world – but he continues to have a special fondness for singing in Denmark.
