Repertoire

Broad scope and high ambitions

The nearly 300 performances staged each summer at the Pantomime Theatre range from classical ballets, fairytale ballets, and modern works to traditional pantomime performances. Most performances are created specifically for the company and are directed by in-house choreographers or by selected guest choreographers from Denmark and abroad.

Classical ballets
These ballets vary from smaller productions to major classics, condensed to approximately 30 minutes. The 2014 production of August Bournonville’s “La Sylphide,” staged and adapted by Artistic Director Peter Bo Bendixen, exemplifies a grand ballet adapted to the magnificent old Pantomime Theatre.

Fairytale ballets
These ballets are often loosely based on the works of fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen, and since 2001, Queen Margrethe has been associated with the company as a set designer. She has created stage sets and costumes for six fairytale ballets to date, which are all regular repertoire features.

Modern works
The modern repertoire includes works by Tim Rushton, Paul James Rooney, Kristian Lever, Tim Matiakis, Sebastian Kloborg and Marie Brolin.
