REVELATIONS with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater on the Open Air Stage

The dancing stars from the world-famous Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater usually perform at Tivoli’s Concert Hall but this year they will also perform their signature piece Revelations under the stars on The Open Air Stage. It is the first time in Tivoli´s history that the renowned American dance company will perform a piece on The Open Air Stage in Tivoli. Once the entrance is paid there will be free access to the piece.

Historically the world-famous American dance company Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has a close connection with Tivoli and can be experienced at Tivoli´s Concert Hall this year from August 29th to September 2nd. Before then Tivoli´s guests can witness the American dancers on The Open Air Stage on Sunday, August 27th at 8:30 PM. Even though this year is the 18th time since 1981 that Alvin Ailey performs in Tivoli it is the first time performing under the open sky on The Open Air Stage right in the center of the Garden. The duration of Revelations is 36 minutes.

When the darkness spreads and the colorful lights of Tivoli start to light up the garden it will be the dance company´s signature work Revelations which Tivoli´s guests can experience on The Open Air Stage at 8:30 PM. Since 1960 Revelations has time and time again captivated audiences across the Globe with its perfect mixture of deferential grace and spiritual presence. Alvin Ailey´s characteristic masterpiece celebrates and reflects the Afro-American cultural heritage which Ailey considered one of the richest treasures of the US.

When Alvin Ailey, the founder of the company, was only 29 years old Revelations was choreographed as an intimate reflection inspired by childhood memories about having participated in services in Mount Olive Baptist Church in Texas and by the work of writers James Baldwin and Langston Hughes.

The world-famous dance company Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and its 32 dancers can subsequently be experienced at Tivoli´s Concert Hall where they will perform six spectacular shows from August 29th to September 2nd.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will present the pieces Roy’s Joys, Pas de Duke, Cry, The River and Dancing Spirit and of course, the well-known signature piece Revelations will be performed in Tivoli´s Concert Hall in 2023. Alvin Ailey will require a ticket to witness when performing at Tivoli´s Concert Hall and tickets are available at Tivoli.dk/ailey.
