Bach, Kullberg's particular hero, is featured in all three intimate concerts, placed in perspective in various ways. His much-loved Cello Suites, a true jewel of the cello repertoire, will be performed at every concert.
In this third and final concert, two Bach solo pieces are juxtaposed with classics for the duo of violin and cello. Joining Kullberg on-stage is German violinist Carolin Widmann, who is increasingly making a name for herself on the international stage – most recently with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic. Her repertoire spans everything from brand new premieres of works by Berg and Ligeti to classics such as Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, which she has just released on ECM with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
In the particularly intimate In focus chamber format, audiences can hear her perform solo (Bach) and in duets with Kullberg featuring the neoclassical music of Schulhoff and the expressive Hungarian sound of Kodály.
