Tivoli – summer 2008

The summer season 2008 at Tivoli is all about one of man’s first and foremost pleasures: food!Of course you will be able to garnish with the regular and much-loved Tivoli pleasures, the music, the rides, and the scenery, not to mention the company of lots of happy Tivoli guests.

Copenhagen’s new gastronomic landmark
For the first time ever it will be possible to spend a night in Tivoli when the Nimb Hotel Tivoli opens it doors in April 2008. The Nimb building from 1909 - a Tivoli icon - is undergoing extensive renovation to restore the famous Moresque facade facing Tivoli to its original appearance. The name of Nimb – once a famous family of restaurateurs in Copenhagen - will hopefully rise to former glory as this new gastronomic landmark brings Danish cuisine to a new level. Not only will you find an uncompromising gourmet restaurant, but also a more informal brasserie, social and conference facilities, and a large Italian-style wine cellar. Also the new Nimb holds a delicatessen with its own dairy, kitchen and chocolate production, where you can buy and take home.Tivoli and the Løgismose company (known from Kong Hans Kælder and Falsled Kro) are behind the new Nimb in a company called Løgismose –Nimb A/S.

Family fun in the Frigate
The Tivoli Lake is home to the impressive frigate Sct. Georg III. From 2008 this mighty vessel will hold a family restaurant, finally allowing children visiting Tivoli to be pretend pirates to the full extent (in the former up-market restaurant the little pirates were only welcome if quiet and on their best behaviour).

Gardens and rides
Not often do you find twenty-odd rides and loads of shooting galleries, wheels-of-fortune etc. in a setting of big trees and thousands of flowers. But at Tivoli you do, and it is well worth taking the time to sit in the gardens with an ice cream cone, maybe regaining your strength after riding the 1914 wooden roller coaster (one of the world’s oldest) or the 80 metres tall Starflyer. Many buildings in Tivoli are of considerable age and their charming and exotic designs are striking. And do stay on until the lights go on at dusk; it is then, that Tivoli turns truly magical.

Music for all
Tivoli has its own symphony orchestra playing in The Tivoli Concert Hall. The summer season offers a string of classical concerts with some of the finest musicians in the world, be it conductors, singers pianists or even small ensembles playing chamber music.Though there are several rock or jazz concerts in the Concert Hall every summer, the main venue for that is the open-air stage. Every Friday at 22:00 crowds gather here for Friday Rock with at Danish or international band or artist. 23 May Mary J. Blige will be the Friday Rock artist.
