Cassander decides that his daughter, Columbine, is to marry a foolish suitor. But she loves only Harlequin. Unfortunately, Pierrot is also in love with Columbine, and when nothing comes of it, he eventually tries to kill himself. Thankfully, he is too clumsy to succeed.
