Estonian Festival Orchestra & Lisa Batiashvili

The Estonian Festival Orchestra visits Denmark for the first time. The orchestra was founded in 2011, and in this concert it presents music from Estonia's neighbours: Denmark's Carl Nielsen, Finland's Sibelius and Russia's Tchaikovsky.

The Estonian Festival Orchestra was founded by world-renowned Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi. He is a great admirer of Carl Nielsen, and is looking forward to playing Nielsen's popular Aladdin Suite here in Copenhagen, where it was composed.

Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto features virtuoso violinist Lisa Batiashvili in the solo part. Born in Georgia, she lived in Germany for many years and is well-known for her recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, most recently the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. She is an incomparably stylish soloist who performs Tchaikovsky knowledgeably and to perfection.

The concert ends with Sibelius' impressive Symphony No. 2, a heroic epic about the strong emotions and many opportunities of a young nation. The image fits the young Estonian Festival Orchestra beautifully.
