Christmas in Tivoli 2008

On Friday, 14 November, Tivoli opens its doors for a new Christmas season. This year's Christmas in Tivoli will put extra focus on the lighting. Between Christmas and New Year, Tivoli will host a five-day Fireworks Festival – and Santa Claus will welcome visitors to his new ride, the Christmas Express.

Christmas in Tivoli took place for the first time in 1994. Only a small part of Tivoli was open. In 1997, Tiffany’s chief designer, John Loring, designed the special fairy lights for Tivoli that have since become a familiar feature. This year's Christmas in Tivoli will put extra focus on the lighting with spectacular light diodes decorating the popular ride, the Demon, and turning it into a unique landmark against the Danish winter sky.The 500+ metre track of the Demon will be lit up by 5,550 lamps. Focus Lighting Inc. is behind the new lighting. The company is especially famous for their architectural lighting in Dubai, among other places. The lighting will be made up of LED lamps (light-emitting diodes). Each lamp can radiate the colours red, green and blue, providing countless combinations. In addition to the new spectacular lighting, a light source will also follow the Demon car around the track. But visitors will also experience new lighting around the Gardens.Last year Pixie Ville, the home of Tivoli's pixies and elves, opened with a brand new design to the great delight of children and the young-at-heart. This year Pixie Ville will include a new ride (in addition to the popular Elves' Train): a new roller-coaster that takes visitors on a ride above the snow-covered landscape where they can see all the pixies and elves preparing for Christmas. Between Christmas and New Year, the Tivoli Fireworks Festival will present spectacular firework displays set to music every evening at 22:30. The themes of the Fireworks Festival will be ”The Four Seasons” and ”New Year”. The Danish company of Højen & Magic Fyrværkeri is behind the Festival. Christmas in Tivoli’s villages will be buzzing with life when more than 70 stall holders move in with their wide range of decorations, presents, delicacies, food and drink. All of Tivoli’s familiar restaurants will be offering a warm welcome. The usual fare will be replaced with traditional Christmas delicacies, and you are recommended to book a table as Tivoli has become a popular venue for company Christmas parties.Tivoli’s amusements will be twirling merrily during Christmas in Tivoli. Indeed, more rides will be available than in summer as the Swing Carousel, the Music Carousel, the Chinese Lantern and the Elves' Train have become favourites with the public. In Tivoli’s music and theatre venues, the Glass Hall and the Concert Hall, there will be wonderful entertainment for young and old. The Fairy-Tale Theatre (Eventyrteatret) takes over the Glass Hall during the day, while the Crazy Christmas Cabaret moves into the Hall in the evenings. The Concert Hall will host Aveny-T’s hip-hop version of the Nutcracker, an amazing version of a classic Christmas tale for the whole family. It's the absolutely final performance of this version of the Nutcracker.
