Pianoforte! Piano aces in Tivoli
The summer programme of the Tivoli Concert Hall will be published in mid-March, but we can already reveal the Pianoforte! concert series now – a total of five piano evenings in the course of the summer season. And featuring Maurizio Pollini, Marc-André Hamelin, Boris Berman, Krystian Zimerman and András Schiff the concerts are something to look forward to. For inveterate piano lovers who are into sublime piano music as well as those who may be going to a classical concert for the very first time, Pianoforte! is a unique opportunity to hear some of the world’s greatest pianists. Tickets for the concerts with Pollini, Hamelin, Zimerman and Schiff will be available from 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday 22 January at Tivoli’s Ticket Centre and at Billetnet.dk. As a gift there is free admission to the concert with Boris Berman for guests with a Tivoli 2008 Season Pass.
The highly-esteemed pianist Maurizio Pollini will be the first of the five stars to perform at the Concert Hall. It is his first visit to Denmark for 25 years. Maurizio Pollini, who is indisputably among the world’s greatest classical pianists, gives a maximum of 40 performances a year (at astronomic fees which he insists on sharing on a fifty-fifty basis with his piano tuner!) and his crystal clear playing makes it an absolute must-hear event in 2008. Maurizio Pollini plays on 26 April.
The second Pianoforte! star of the summer is French-Canadian Marc-André Hamelin, who is known far and wide for his brilliant and fearless playing. “No living pianist is as capable of playing more notes more clearly in a shorter space of time. Hamelin’s legend will grow – right now there is no one like him.” The New Yorker. Marc-André Hamelin plays – for the first time in Denmark – on 11 June.
Boris Berman from the US is internationally recognised for his Prokofiev recordings and visits the Concert Hall with a grandiose all-Prokofiev programme. "The most remarkable aspect of Mr. Berman’s playing is its poetical refinement and intense musicality. His technical resources appear virtually limitless." The New York Times. Berman will also act as a judge at Tivoli’s International Piano Competition taking place in late July. Boris Berman plays on 25 July.
With his personal charisma, soaring artistic standards and not least his noble, lyrical touch, Krystian Zimerman keeps spellbinding his audiences around the globe. Zimerman is an extremely exclusive pianist who is in great demand but gives very few performances every year. Krystian Zimerman plays on 5 August.
András Schiff had the audience at the Tivoli Concert Hall in the palm of his hands and bowled over reviewers who gave him top marks for his completion of the cycle of Beethoven sonatas last season. Those fortunate enough to attend the concerts in 2007 will undoubtedly go to great lengths to be present again when Schiff returns with an all-Schubert programme this summer. András Schiff plays on 25 August. For further information on the pianists and the concert programmes see below.
