Tivoli’s 164th season opens on 13 April with a Concert Hall profile presenting some of the most outstanding artists in the world of music, a new cyberspace forum: koncertsalen.tivoli.dk,”Go classical” for young people under 35, a succession of conversations with the performing artists (”Meet the artists”), a number of concerts and series, lectures and films with free admission for everyone with a Season Pass, and much, much more.
Besides the comprehensive classical music programme, concerts featuring artists such as Bryan Ferry (27 May), Macy Gray (30 May) and Rickie Lee Jones (27 April) will continue last year’s successful rock concerts in the Concert Hall. Gino Vannelli, David Sanborn, Randy Brecker, Lisa Nilsson and Niels Lan Doky (2 and 3 July) will appear with the Tivoli Symphony Orchestra, which will also perform with Rolando Villazon, the hottest name in opera (15 August), Leonard Slatkin, the American master conductor, with the Chinese piano phenomenon Yundi Li (1 September), the violinist Vadim Repin (26 May), the pianist Maria Joao Pires and many more.
"The Concert Hall will present both high-brow and popular music - the keyword is quality! Whether you prefer a master pianist or an r&b diva, great rock’n’roll performances or intimate moments where you can feel the entire audience holding its breath, the Concert Hall has something for everyone. Putting it all together has been tough going, but now I am looking forward to alternately taking my children, my soccer friends and my parents to see and hear all the magic and varied experiences that this fantastic building will have to offer,"says Nikolaj Koppel, Music Director.
World-class bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff finally visits Denmark as the top name in Haydn’s ”The Creation” (24 June). We have also succeeded in getting high-profile guests such as Zubin Mehta/Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (15 September), the Alban Berg Quartett (17 May) and the Emerson String Quartet (5 September) to perform at the Concert Hall. Swedish mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter is the soloist in a large-scale gala concert on 10 June in the Tivoli Concert Hall when the Queen Ingrid Honorary Prize is awarded to two talented young artists in the fields of classical music and ballet.For the 20-40-year olds, 440 Hz, last year’s successful introduction to classical music, will be repeated, and for the youngest concert goers, the 80 strong Symphony Orchestra will perform with Danish children’s tv hosts Martin and Ketil, and Signe Svendsen, Michala Petri and the dancers of the Pantomime Theatre in three family concerts (19 and 20 May).

”Meet the artists” in conversations with Music Director Nikolaj Koppel
What is on the artists’ minds just before they go on stage? How long do they practice every day and how does it work? Music Director Nikolaj Koppel interviews the artists, and the audience is also invited to ask questions. ”Meet the artists” Vadim Repin and Marty Brabbins (26 May), Okka Kamu and Maria João Pires (16 June), Thomas Quasthoff and Helmuth Rilling (24 June), Vivian Hagner and Osoma Vänska (28 July) and Bo Skovhus and Patrick Summers (3 August). The conversations take place on stage right after the concerts.
11 selected events for young people under 35
”Go classical” is a new event for young people under 35 who are given the choice of 11 selected concerts featuring both Danish and international stars at DKK 80 per concert. The three back rows of the Concert Hall, which offer an excellent view and great acoustics, have been reserved specially for this purpose. The selected concerts include Rossen Milanov and Katrine Gislinge (3 May), Alban Berg Quartett (17 May), Vadim Repin and Martyn Brabbins (26 May), Okko Kamu and Maria João Pires (16 June), Steven Osborne (11 July), Thomas Dausgaard, Lisa Batiashvili and Svenska Kammerorkestern (26 July), Vivian Hagner and Osma Vänskä (28 July), Bo Skovhus and Patrick Summers (3 August), Cristian Mandeal and Rafal Blechacz (8 August), 440 HZ (28 August) and Leonard Slatkin and Yundi Li (1 September).
SeasonPass Concerts: free admission to concerts with a Season Pass
Guests with a Season Pass have free admission to a number of concerts and series, lectures and films and get a 15% discount on selected concerts. Experience the Tivoli Symphony Orchestra with elite students from the Juilliard School of Music, the world's finest music school (9 and 11 May), or with the winner of the 2006 Tivoli International Piano Competition, Ning An (20 August). Furthermore, Season Pass holders have free admission to the celebration on stage of Danish composer Per Nørgård’s 75th birthday (13 July) and to a series of music, lectures and films paying tribute to Glenn Gould, one of the most celebrated classical pianists ever (4 – 9 July). They also have free admission to chamber concerts with the Danish Horn Trio (31 May), Henrik Dam Thomsen (11 and 13 June), Vilde Frang and Robert Kulek (20 July), Trio Ondine (22 July), the Copenhagen Youth String Orchestra (27 August) and the Zealand String Quartet (30 August). For these concerts, guests without a Season Pass may purchase tickets at the entrance to the Concert Hall for DKK 50 per concert.
